Understanding TraDoc

TraDoc's purpose, scope and the components involved in a translation.

TraDoc is a self-hosted suite for translating long-form and literary documents. It does not provide an AI model itself: it connects your files to a local or remote provider, preserves progress and reconstructs the final document.

Three responsibilities

  1. Prepare the document: validate the file type, extract translatable blocks and preserve the information required for reconstruction.
  2. Orchestrate the model: segment the text, apply the prompt and glossary, limit concurrency, retry errors and save every result.
  3. Restore the book: review segments in the inspector, export a partial preview or reconstruct the final format.

What TraDoc does not replace

  • The LLM provider and any associated charges.
  • Human editorial proofreading.
  • A backup solution for the data/ directory.
  • Multi-user authentication or protection for direct Internet exposure.

Sensitive data

A manuscript, an API key and a glossary may be confidential. Keep TraDoc on a machine or network you control and read Security before exposing it to a network.
