Languages and prompts

Language pairs, automatic detection and rules for the literary prompt.

TraDoc recognizes, among others, en, fr, es, de, it, pt, ja, zh, ko, ru, nl, pl, plus auto for automatic detection.

Project languages

Initial values are defined by:

DEFAULT_SOURCE_LANG=en
DEFAULT_TARGET_LANG=fr

Each project can then choose its own pair. Codes are limited to letters and hyphens; use short codes that the model understands consistently.

Default literary prompt

The prompt requests:

  • fluent and natural translation;
  • preservation of proper names unless the glossary says otherwise;
  • no omitted or added sentences;
  • preservation of HTML tags;
  • only the translation, with no commentary or internal reasoning.

Custom prompt

A prompt can specify register, regional variety, forms of address, punctuation or fictional-world constraints. Do not ask the model to alter the HTML structure required by the parser.

Test before finalizing a prompt

Use several representative excerpts: dialogue, narration, headings, italics and glossary terms. A single paragraph does not always reveal drift across a long work.
